SWWIC was pleased to welcome guest speaker Professor Wendy Purcell Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of the University of Plymouth. Professor Purcell is a member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England Strategic Advisory Committee on Leadership, Governance and Management, a member of the Plymouth Local Strategic Partnership Board and the local and regional Employment & Skills Board and also a member of the Confederation of British Industry. Professor Purcell is keen to highlight the university’s role which it plays in the city’s civic, cultural, social and economic development. The university has developed a strong relationship and as a good partner to the City brings many benefits to the region.
The attendance of the many members and guests attending SWWIC’s showcase event ‘Ladies with Influence Lunch 2009’ helped support this worthy local charity. The event is part of SWWIC’s fundraising activities for the Children’s Hospice South West. Guests enjoyed the fantastic setting and spectacular views of Plymouth Sound from the battlements of the Royal Citadel during the event which was held at the prestigious Officers’ Mess in the stunning historical site and home of the 29 Commando, Royal Artillery Regiment, on Friday 26th June. SWWIC is most grateful to the Commanding Officer, Lt. Colonel Neil Wilson RA, and his officers for inviting SWWIC into their military home and to the members of the Regiment who have provided so much help.
