July 2010: Ladies with Influence Lunch: Angela Rippon

LWILunch_Angela Rippon 3Guest speaker the multi-talented Angela Rippon OBE.  Trained as a journalist in her home town of Plymouth, Angela worked for both BBC Plymouth and the ITV station Westward Television before joining BBC National News in 1973.  Her career has embraced an impressive variety of programmes, both on radio and television in Britain, Australia and America.  Television programmes include Come Dancing, The Antiques Road show, Olivier Awards, What’s My Line, Top Gear and of course, The Morecombe and Wise Christmas Show – to mention but a few.  Angela has also found the time to write no less than 14 books!

LWILunch_Angela Rippon 2The scope and quality of her work has been recognised by the Royal Television Society who entered her into their Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2002 she was voted European Woman of Achievement and in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004 she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to Broadcasting, Charity and the Arts.

LWILunch_Angela Rippon 1The annual Ladies with influence lunch was held at the delightful Hotel Endsleigh, set in 108 acres of the most beautiful Devon countryside and overlooking the River Tamar– the house was rescued in 2005 by Olga Polizzi and has been carefully and beautifully restored.
