Recently South West Women in Construction were honoured to have their annual Ladies with Influence Lunch at the Stonehouse Barracks in Plymouth, home of 3 Commando IX Group, Royal Marines. We were delighted to have secured a visit to these fabulous surroundings as the members of SWWIC do a lot to support the Hasler Company, a support organisation in HMS Drake which helps to integrate service personnel, who have been injured or harmed in any way during the recent ongoing conflicts, back into society.
We were welcomed by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Chris Middleton, MBE, RM, before settling in to a lovely lunch amid all the silverware and history of the barracks. We were then treated to a truly inspirational presentation by Beverley Warne, MD of Pirate FM, a company which has recently become one of the most successful and profitable commercial radio stations in the UK and has twice won the Sony Gold awards for Radio Station Of The Year. Beverley took us through the highs and lows of her career and showed how strength of character and belief can enable you to achieve anything you set out to do.
A fantastic time was had by all who attended, enabling us to raise £800 for the Hasler Company. Thelma Sorensen OBE, Chair of Cornwall Business Partnership said,” The annual lunch was a great success with over fifty four members of SWWIC and their guests attending. Many thanks to Beverly Warner, our guest speaker and to 3 CDO Brigade Royal Marines for their hospitality. We wish them success and good luck in all their future enterprises in this their 350th Anniversary year.”
